Recovery Move of the Week: Supported Fish Pose for Chest & Shoulder Relief

🫁 RECOVERY MOVE of the Week:

Supported Fish Pose

Your upper body carries more stress than you think. This week’s recovery move helps you let it go.

Whether you’re fresh off strength training, or just feeling tight in your chest and shoulders, Supported Fish Pose is a simple way to open up, breathe deeper, and hit reset—little effort required.


🎒 What You’ll Need:

  • A blanket, yoga bolster, or two blocks

  • A quiet 5-10 minutes (15 is optimal!)


🧘🏾‍♀️ How to Do It:

  1. Place the blanket, bolster, or blocks on the mat—one under your upper back (lengthwise), one under your head.

  2. Begin seated in front of your prop(s) and slowly lie back until you are fully supported, and lying flat on your mat.

  3. Let your arms relax at your sides, with palms facing up.

  4. Legs can be straight, or bent. If you are bending, the soles of your feet should be touching—gently rest your knees.

  5. Try staying here for 3-5 minutes, slowly inhaling and exhaling, breathing into your chest and ribs. Let gravity do the work.



USING A BLANKET?
Fold the blanket into a long, narrow rectangle — about the length of your spine and 3-5 inches thick. (You can adjust the thickness based on how much lift you want, and what is comfortable for you.)


💡 Why It Matters:

Supported Fish Pose gently opens the chest and shoulders, counteracts hours of sitting or lifting at work, and signals your nervous system to relax. Use it after a workout, during your evening wind-down, or any time your body feels closed off.


Remember, it’s hard but it’s fair. Simple and effective. Recovery done right.
